Dental Implants

Dental Implants are an economical and effective way to replace missing teeth. They can be used on their own or as a base for dentures, bridges, or crowns to restore natural tooth function.

Dental Implants offer many benefits over other types of restorations such as the reduced risk of gum recession and bone loss around the implant site that may occur with fixed bridgework (dentures). In addition:

  • A Dental Implant is most similar to a natural tooth
  • The teeth next to the implant do not have to be involved in the placement of the implant
  • Implants may decrease or help prevent shrinkage of the jawbone from tooth loss

Why consider getting Dental Implant treatment at Hamamoto Dentistry?

Dental implants are the most effective way to replace missing teeth.
When a tooth is extracted, the bone around it collapses and withers over time. The closest thing we have to a tooth replacement is a dental implant. An implant, like a healthy tooth, absorbs stresses and transmits them to the surrounding bone, maintaining bone levels.

Titanium dental implants do not corrode and do not rot.
The crown that screws into the implant is made of metal or ceramic, while the implant is made of titanium. These materials, unlike natural teeth, are neither corroded nor degraded by acid, sugar, or germs in the mouth. Despite their resistance to cavities, implants must be cared for as if they were real teeth, as they are susceptible to gum disease and bone loss if not properly cleaned.

Dental implants can be used in conjunction with older, more traditional therapies to improve outcomes.
Dentures that lie on top of the gums and are supported primarily by the bone beneath the gums are known as conventional dentures. However, unlike a tooth or an implant, the force applied to the bone does not enter the bone. As a result, the bone deteriorates over time. This is why, after several years of wearing a denture, it may seem loose. The denture itself does not change over time, but the gums and bone that support it do.

Getting Dental Impant Treatment at Hamamoto Dentistry

The first step is the surgical placement of the implant(s) into the bone. This is usually done right in our office with a local anesthetic, making the process virtually pain-free. After surgery, there is a healing period of approximately four months. During this time, the implants fuse to the bone by a process known as osseointegration.

Next, we will attach the post to the implant. The function of the post is to become the support for either one tooth or a set of teeth. This is a short procedure that usually requires only local anesthesia.

The last phase is the restorative phase. We will take digital impressions and then make a prosthesis that will attach to the implants. This may require a few visits. Once completed, your mouth will be restored with natural-looking, strong teeth.
